on blogging

I know I've been talking a lot about blogging lately. For instance, finding my "style." It is something that has been, for lack of a better word, troubling to me. How to write amazing posts that fit perfectly with amazing photos.

Do I add something funny in this sentence? What about this photo? Should it go first, or after this one? How do I know what I'm doing is OK? What will people think if I say this?

I've heard that the amazing bloggers are those who make people laugh. I've heard that the way to successful blogging is to write really deep posts filled with allegories galore. Believe me people, I've heard it all.

Quite honestly, it's enough to make someone's hair turn gray. At least mine anyway.

And it's hard. I love my blog. I want it to be the best it can be.

But should I follow what other people say a blog should be, and perhaps I will be successful?

Or do I step off the sidewalk and do my own thing?

That, my friends, is the million dollar blogging question.
I sometimes think that blogging is a science. Add two to two and you get four. But that's not always the case. You can get five, or eighteen, or four thousand. There is no formula for blogging.

That's what I have to remind myself of every single stinkin' time I open blogger and hit new post.

That's what I have to remind myself of every time I read another incredible post that I didn't have the luck to write.

That's what I have to remind myself of when I only get four page views in a day.

That's what I have to remind myself of when the going gets tough and I don't get a single follower for three weeks and I ask myself why. Because I am human, and I am okay with that.
Lovely, if you are reading this and you are feeling discouraged with blogging, don't be. There is a light at the end of your dark blogging tunnel, and your life will be enriched by this experience, whether you have 20 followers or 2,000.
There is no formula for blogging, so we might as well stop looking for one. What I can tell you (and myself) is that each blog is as precious and unique as its author, and there are many roads to success, whether success takes the form of thousands of followers or not.

  1. How encouraging! I go through those same struggles every time I hit "new post." Well, I'm glad I blog, if only because of the amazing people I got to meet =)

  2. I think this way of thinking about how God works can apply to many areas of life Abi. He is working even when it doesn't seem like it. Thanks for the reminder.
